Twipper of the Week: Carmen Edelson from Carmen’s Luxury Travel.
Current city: Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Total countries visited: I have visited 14 countries in total, including seven trips to Cuba and multiple trips to Spain.
What makes you interesting: I see travel from the perspective of someone who doesn’t take it for granted. I only started traveling in my 30s. Also, I write about Tenerife and Cuba as someone who is reconnecting with family and discovering my familial homeland or “roots,” as we used to say.
What’s your travanality? Urbanite.
How has travel changed you or how do you hope it will change you: I think we all go through waves of change. At first, I was thrilled to see the world’s great sites. Now, I am more into the cultures and food of the destinations and how the concept of luxury is translated at each destination. A fine London hotel should feel very different from one in Paris, Venice or NYC. The interesting thing is how they do it.
What’s one thing you have no problem breaking the bank for when traveling: Paying for Internet access so I can stay in touch with my readers and family.
If you were given a free trip tomorrow, where would you go: Bali has always been a dream destination of mine. I have always been fascinated with its many temples, the rich culture and their “Eat, Pray, Love” vibes.
What has been the most useful thing you have brought on a trip: An insulated rain jacket when I went to Alaska.
What do you enjoy doing the most during your travels: I enjoy local spots. I try to be a temporary local and avoid the touristy places.
Next travel destination: Cuba.
